Questionnaire assessing the ecosystem service potential of mangrove ecosystems in Kenya

Back to news

Your answers will feed into an exciting case study that analyzes the linkages between management activities and the potential for mangrove ecosystem service provision in Gazi Bay, Kenya, and offers suggestions on how to integrate the findings into the planning of mangrove management projects in the WIO region.

We are currently in the scoping process of the second phase of the Save Our Mangroves Now Initiative! In this process we are collaborating with Mira Franzen, a Master student of Environmental Sciences at Wageningen University, who is writing her thesis in collaboration with Save Our Mangroves Now Initiative! at the World Wide Fund For Nature (WWF) International Centre for Marine Protection in Hamburg, Germany. To feed into the scoping process of the second phase of the Save Our Mangroves Now Initiative!, Mira is evaluating the linkages between mangrove management decisions and the ecosystems potential to provide ecosystems services.

The ecosystem service assessment questionnaire aims to get responses from Kenya national mangrove experts, as well as international mangrove experts. Depending on your regional expertise, you can decide to answer the questions at a site-specific-, county-, national-  or at a general level. The ecosystem service assessment questionnaire starts with a brief introduction to the Kenya National Mangrove Ecosystem Management Plan and a quick zoom into the case study area, Gazi Bay, in Kwale County. After introducing you to the setting, the two mangrove management scenarios are presented. The Scenario descriptions are followed by two matrixes to assess the hypothetical ecosystem service potential given the conditions of Scenario A and Scenario B.

We would like to ask you to take a few moments to answer our ecosystem service assessment questionnaire. Your input means a lot to us and the further development of effective mangrove management in Kenya and the WIO region. Thank you!
