Mexico Blue Carbon

The Nature Conservancy is working with local communities to restore mangroves in Marismas Nacionales. The first phase of the project will include a remote sensing assessment of the wetland to better understand the state of the mangroves and restoration options available. The flux models from this study coupled with existing data of the response of mangrove regrowth in former restoration sites can help to estimate the response of the carbon stocks. In addition to implementing mangrove restoration in the field, the project also supports the newly launched Mexico Blue Carbon Initiative.
