The theme is "Mangroves Matter"

July 26th marks the 20th anniversary of Mangrove Action Day, now recognized by UNESCO as the International Day for the Conservation of the Mangrove Ecosystem. This historic day commemorated Greenpeace activist Hayhow Daniel Nanoto, who died in 1998 during a massive protest to re-establish the mangrove wetlands in Ecuador.

As part of celebrating this important day, The Mangrove Action Project have created a Photography Contest, receiving stunning mangrove photos from around the globe. All photos submitted will be part of a special online exhibition to help raise awareness of these coastal ecosystems.

Please visit http://www.mangroveactionproject.org/actionday/ to submit your photos and find out other ways you can get involved with World Mangrove Day.

There is still time to submit your photos by midnight Tuesday 24th, July with special prizes to be won.
